KISSIMMEE, Fla. – A 56-year-old Orlando man who had just been discharged from AdventHealth Kissimmee was fatally struck by a van and run over by another vehicle that left the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said Albert Herbert died in the crash, which was reported at 12:15 a.m. on Orange Blossom Trail near Hilda Street in Kissimmee.
According to the FHP, Herbert, who was using a walker, entered the southbound lanes and walked into the direct path of a 2014 Chrysler van driven by an 80-year-old Kissimmee man.
Herbert was struck by the van and thrown into the northbound lanes, where he was run over by another vehicle, which didn't stop, troopers said.
"(The driver) ran over him -- never stopped, never called in, so we don't really (have) any information about that vehicle," said Lt. Kim Montes, with the Florida Highway Patrol.
Herbert was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the FHP.
"People are still taking that risk that they're not going to get caught, and we've arrested several people in high profile cases this year," Montes said.

The van driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured, the FHP said. Troopers said that driver will likely not face charges. They said the driver who left the scene will face felony charges for leaving the scene of a deadly crash.
"If you're going to risk leaving the scene, realize there are people who are going to call these tips in and there's possible surveillance videos," Montes said.
Troopers are warning pedestrians to always cross at a crosswalk and urging drivers to be careful.
"Make sure you're looking out for any dangers on the roadways, including pedestrians," Montes said.
